Position: Secondary School Counselor (grant-funded position)
Purpose:
The School Counselor provides a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that supports students’ academic achievement, career planning, and social/emotional well-being. The counselor collaborates with staff, families, and community resources to ensure all students have equitable access to opportunities and support systems needed for success.
Qualifications:
- Valid School Counselor endorsement (NT)
- Understanding of adolescent development
- Knowledge of college admissions, career pathways, and graduation requirements
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze and use student data effectively
Job Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Counselor has the following responsibilities:
- Assist with the development of Educational Development Plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support student achievement.
- Provide career exploration and postsecondary planning resources.
- Provide individual and group counseling.
- Support students dealing with personal, behavioral, or mental health concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and ethical standards.
- Respond to crises, including risk of harm, grief, and trauma situations.
- Communicate positively with students, staff and families.
- Participate in student support teams (MTSS, IEP, 504).
- Develop, maintain and ensure compliance of 504 plans.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development.
- Perform other job responsibilities deemed appropriate by the building or district administrator.
