Position: Thornapple Kellogg Middle School Principal
Summary:
Thornapple Kellogg Middle School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Principal. The Principal is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment that supports the success of all students. This role provides visionary leadership in curriculum, instruction, student services, and staff development while maintaining a strong partnership with families and the broader community. The Principal ensures a safe school climate, promotes continuous improvement, and aligns building goals with district priorities. Thornapple Kelloss School District is part of the Kent Intermediate School District.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field
- Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience; administrative experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and student assessment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan's State Standards, curriculum development, use of student achievement data, PBIS, MTSS, and school improvement processes to provide leadership that supports meeting the needs of all learners
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
- Experience managing budgets, resources, and school operations preferred
- Evidence of ability to consistently foster collaboration, competency, and continuous improvement
- Experience and understanding of the use of AI in improving instruction and student outcomes
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction
- Promote high-quality teaching practices and continuous professional growth for staff
- Utilize data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes
- Support implementation of district initiatives and state standards
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all students and staff
- Lead efforts to promote positive student behavior and engagement
- Address student discipline in a fair and consistent manner aligned with district policies
- Supervise, evaluate, and support certified and support staff
- Facilitate professional development aligned to school improvement goals
- Build collaborative teams and promote a culture of shared leadership
- Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities, and resource allocation
- Manage the building budget responsibly and efficiently
- Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and legal requirements
- Communicate effectively with families and community members
- Build partnerships that enhance student opportunities and school programs
- Represent the school positively within the community
- Lead the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan
- Monitor progress toward goals and adjust strategies as needed
- Ensure alignment with district and state accountability measures
- Active participation and leadership in developing and facilitating professional development on topics related to assessment, data, growth measures, PBIS, school improvement, and MTSS
- Assist in organizing, planning and facilitating registrations, open houses, parent informational meetings and parent-teacher conferences in relation to matters of assessment, data, post-secondary planning, etc.
