Position Overview
We are seeking a high-energy, hands-on Terminal Operations Manager to lead our multi-state regional trucking hub in Palmyra, MO. You will have full operational oversight of the terminal, blending high-level leadership with daily, frontline dispatch and logistics coordination. This role requires deep, specialized expertise in HazMat shipping regulations, chemical/bulk commodity transport, and terminal efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Ownership Reporting: Partner directly with the owners to review terminal profitability, safety metrics, and strategic growth opportunities.
- Daily Dispatch & Logistics: Work directly in the dispatch seat daily, coordinating driver schedules, routing, and specialized HazMat load optimization.
- Operational Oversight: Manage all terminal departments including office personnel, safety, drivers, and maintenance.
- Tank Wash Management: Oversee our state-of-the-art, multi-bay Leeser Tank Wash operation, supporting both specialized chemical/industrial cleanings and dedicated food-grade wash lines.
- ISO Container Operations: Coordinate the logistics, staging, and tracking of ISO tank containers, utilizing on-site steam or electric heating capabilities to meet strict product delivery temperatures.
- Revenue & Pricing: Review customer requests, calculate specialized lane costs, and provide accurate freight rate quotes for hazardous commodities.
- Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, PHMSA, FDA (for food-grade transport), and EPA regulations.
- Safety Leadership: Partner with the safety department to manage incident response protocols, security plans, and maintain a top-tier safety rating.
- Asset Utilization: Ensure the maintenance shop properly services specialized pumps, valves, compressors, and liners required for chemical and food-grade transport.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred (equivalent industry experience will be considered).
- HazMat Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of HazMat shipping, including proper placarding, compatibility charts, shipping papers, and emergency response procedures.
- Tank Wash & ISO Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial tank wash operations (chemical heels, wash protocols, food-grade sanitization standards) and ISO container heating systems.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of trucking management experience, specifically in bulk pneumatic or liquid chemical tanker operations.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with FMCSA regulations, 49 CFR, and driver Hours of Service (HOS) specific to hazardous materials carriers.
- Technology: Proficient in transportation management software (TMS) and route optimization; familiarity with Samsara ELD and telematics is a strong plus.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage diverse teams, from diesel mechanics and tank wash technicians to office staff and specialized HazMat drivers.
- Availability: Must reside within commuting distance of Palmyra, MO for daily, on-site terminal management.
