Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, and manage a team of custodial staff, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.
- Schedule and assign daily tasks, monitor job performance, and conduct regular evaluations of custodial staff.
- Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
- Custodial Operations Management:
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols to ensure all areas of the facility are consistently maintained.
- Oversee daily cleaning activities, including floor care, waste management, restroom sanitation, and general housekeeping.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure cleanliness and compliance with organizational standards.
- Inventory & Supply Management:
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and chemicals, ensuring that all materials are properly stored and available as needed.
- Order and replenish supplies as necessary, maintaining cost-effective practices.
- Ensure that all cleaning products and equipment are used safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all custodial operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Conduct regular safety training and meetings with custodial staff.
- Vendor & Contractor Coordination:
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized cleaning services, such as carpet cleaning, window washing, and pest control.
- Review and approve vendor invoices, ensuring services are completed to satisfaction and within budget.
- Customer Service:
- Respond promptly to facility maintenance and cleanliness concerns, providing solutions to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Collaborate with other departments to address specific custodial needs and provide support for special events or activities.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of custodial activities, including cleaning schedules, inspection reports, and staff attendance.
- Prepare and present reports on custodial operations, staffing, and budget management to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, new cleaning technologies, and innovations to continuously improve custodial services.
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required; an associate's or bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in custodial management or a related supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of cleaning practices, equipment, and supplies.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficient in using custodial management software and other relevant tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle emergency situations effectively.
- Certifications:
- Certification in custodial management or facilities maintenance (e.g., ISSA CMI certification) is a plus.
- The role primarily involves working within facility interiors, including offices, restrooms, and common areas. The candidate must be comfortable with exposure to cleaning chemicals and the physical demands of custodial work.
- This role may require working from stairs, ladders or elevated platforms.
- This is an essential position which may require work during inclement weather, evenings holidays and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment, such as buffers and vacuums.
