What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Thompson Excavation?
As an Estimator, your primary responsibility will be to calculate-with the utmost accuracy-the total cost required to complete Thompson’s ongoing and future earthmoving & dirt work projects.
Typical duties of an Estimator include:
- Meeting with Project Managers and Superintendents to review cost projections and budgets
- Reviewing project specifications, blueprints, site surveys, and geotechnical reports
- Calculating the cost of labor, equipment, material, operator time, hauling, and disposal fees
- Negotiating bids and proposals from GCs, developers, and property owners
- Generating “bid packages” of proposals and estimates in ProContractor
- Completing front-end reports, addendums, pay schedules, and plans sheets
- Conducting site evaluations to identify logistical challenges, and accessibility issues
- Identify and address safety hazards and other site conditions that may impact costs
- Building contingencies designed to avoid potential risks associated with projects
- Maintaining positive relationships with clients, property owners, and managers
- Conducting post-project evaluations to identify “lessons learned” for the future
- Performing additional duties throughout the course of ongoing and future projects
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of Estimator experience in construction/earthmoving/dirt work
- Experience conducting high-priced negotiations and formal presentations
- Must possess a Valid Driver’s License and be able to drive company vehicle(s)
- Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (ProContractor is a plus)
- Must be willing and able to travel around the Midwest (OH, IN, KY and WV)
