Engineering Technician

Description

Performs diverse and complex assignments in support of superconducting magnet cartridge development: cartridge component development, coil winding and cartridge assembly. Assignments may include, but are not limited to: set up and running of data acquisition equipment for tests, carrying out experiments, troubleshooting, and reporting/documenting results of tests and measures, lead compliance and quality activities, and train other team members.

Key Responsibilities/essential Functions Include

• Utilize initiative and independent judgment, construct, evaluate and improve complex engineering models using conceptual descriptions and ideas.
• Anticipate troubleshooting needs and perform complex troubleshooting encompassing multiple variables and unknowns to achieve root cause analysis and problem resolution.
• Recommend, instruct, design and conduct experiments and diagnostic tests to develop conclusions and solutions.
• May lead technician teams in developing hardware evaluations, to implement plans using knowledge of the product, system operation and complex engineering tools
• Utilize advanced technical communications throughout the new product cycle to improve internal models and/or externally sourced components in terms of system performance, reliability, functionality, and serviceability.
• May provide leadership and daily supervision to all technicians within the assigned department, including the evaluation of performance and management of work plans.
• Work with the management team to lead and deploy training plans as needed.
• Take ownership for business objectives including, delivery, EHS, productivity, materials, costs, output, cycle time, and quality.
• Use six sigma tools to lead teams and to improve established processes and metrics.
• Provide technical assistance by phone or in person to customer, field service personnel, or suppliers as needed.
• Travel to customer sites to assist or lead system level installations, problem resolution, and diagnostics as required.
• Little or no direction is given in execution of job related activities.
• Comply with EHS regulations and policies.

Required Qualifications

• Associates degree, or a High School diploma.
• Demonstrated intuitive and advanced proficiency to logically troubleshoot up to system level, using identifiable problem solving techniques and previous experience
• Ability to draw accurate conclusions from test data, malfunctions, or deviations, and coordinate implementation of corrections to the existing design or process
• High proficiency to interpret and explain complex technical information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with little to no direction
• Ability to communicate using local language
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology related field
• Superconducting magnet coil winding experience
• Superconducting magnet cartridge assembly experience
