What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Associate position at Thomas Oakley PLLC?
Thomas Oakley PLLC is seeking an associate to join our team in Somerville/Cambridge, Massachusetts or Denver, Colorado. We are a non-traditional law firm serving corporate clients in furtherance of our public interest mission. A successful job candidate will have an ability to work on complex corporate legal issues and an interest in supporting highly relevant public interest causes.
You must have strong academic credentials, and the skills and outlook needed to practice corporate law in our firm: strong initiative and ownership, emotional intelligence, deliberate organization, logical reasoning, clear communication, creativity, a collaborative mindset, and a good sense of humor. You will join a small but growing team that is looking to expand rapidly and build a practice that performs at the highest level and makes the world a better place.
You can expect to work directly with early- and mid-stage startups creating and reinventing some of the today’s most exciting technologies. Our paid client work primarily involves venture funding, commercial transactions, acquisitions and spinoffs, and general corporate counseling.
Salary is between $120,000 to $150,000 depending on experience, and a deterministic bonus plan that starts around 1000 hours of collected time with no bonus cap.
Our strongest candidates aren't just looking for their next job; they’re looking for their firm. We invest in associates who want to grow with us and build a lasting career here. We will consider any associate for partnership as soon as their performance meets our standards of excellence.
Qualifications:
· Admitted to practice law in Massachusetts or Colorado
(or eligibility and willingness to apply for admission)
· Two to six years of legal experience in corporate financing, commercial agreements, or a related field
· Strong academic credentials
About us:
We believe that a rewarding career is built on impactful work and meaningful relationships.
Our mission is to provide world-class representation in high value legal markets, and to leverage our for-profit practice to provide public interest services in areas vital to a just society: systemic racism and bias, especially in the criminal justice system; gender equity; LGBTQ rights; socio-economic inequity; and protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
Our firm does not aim to maximize partner profits; instead, we seek to provide sufficient compensation to a group of employees and partners that creates a platform enabling us all to work for the public interest causes that matter to us and our communities.
