The good-faith pay range for this role is $58,200 - $83,500 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.

What your job will be like:
The technician will work from verbal, written, and graphic instructions to provide technical/mechanical support on all aspects in the installation of systems and equipment related to the Jefferson Lab Hall A experimental program. Fabricate, assemble, install and test various detectors, magnets, power supplies and infrastructure hardware in the Hall. Supply technical support during experimental operations, including the operation, maintenance and documentation of the Hall systems.
In this job you will:
  • Demonstrate expertise in interpreting complex mechanical drawings and schematics, with advanced proficiency in precision equipment fabrication and assembly. Skilled in the operation, setup, and maintenance of conventional and CNC machining
  • SMAW, TIG and/or MIG welding.
  • Work with members of the Hall technical team to ensure safe and efficient equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, trucks with trailers, and aerial platforms on a regular basis.
  • Complete and remain current on a series of mandatory safety training requirements prior to working inside Experimental Hall.
  • Responsible for the installation and removal of experimental equipment.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment used for scientific research.
  • Read and interpret drawings in areas such as electronics, mechanical, and cryogenic systems.
  • Utilize basic computer knowledge to carryout daily functions, e.g., check/send emails, fill out timesheet, order tools/parts, complete web-based training, etc.
  • Install and maintain vacuum systems, beam line components and cryogenic transfer systems for nitrogen and helium.
  • Provide technical support for staff, users, and college students conducting research in the Experimental Hall.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Providing input to schedule development.
  • Identify conflicts and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Serve as part of a rotational on-call team that supports the current and upcoming experimental needs
  • Needs to be on call and/or work overtime or shift under standard lab regulation.
Experience
  • Required: 5 or more years
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience and Education Exchange
Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience. Relevant experience may not be substituted for education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Some proficiency in TIG and/or MIG welding, and knowledge of advanced welding equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools and have the skill to operate forklifts, truck and trailer, overhead cranes and aerial platforms in accordance with Jefferson Lab written policies, our EH&S manual and industry standards.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and proven ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to easily adapt to a changing work environment.
  • Available to occasionally work shifts or overtime as needed and be part of a rotational on-call schedule.
  • Comprehension of mechanical drawings, for example utilizing conventional machine tools such as drill presses and band saws to fabricate and assemble unique parts for Hall B experiments.
