Website Content Manager
Purpose: to oversee the planning, implementation, and optimization of data-informed digital content across Monticello.org. This role ensures that Monticello.org’s web presence accurately reflects and supports Monticello’s visitation and revenue goals, programming, scholarship, and visitor offerings.
You will take the lead on the following core responsibilities:
Website Content Management
- Oversee day-to-day content updates for Monticello.org, including pages related to tours, events, programs, and educational initiatives.
- Create and update seasonal and promotional landing pages in coordination with Marketing & Communications (M&C) and external partners.
- Refresh homepage content weekly or seasonally with new visuals and messages that align with institutional priorities.
- Develop and maintain pages for research projects, exhibitions, and institutional initiatives (e.g., Thomas Jefferson Encyclopedia, Art of Citizenship, 250th Commemoration).
- Edit or create copy for site pages, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accessibility.
- Manage image and multimedia assets in coordination with internal teams.
- Post and archive press releases, blog posts, and Monticello Magazine content.
- Manage staff, directing tasks and providing feedback as needed.
Digital Campaigns and Development
- Build and maintain donation landing pages and lightboxes for campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and July 4.
- Collaborate with M&C and Development teams to implement UTM tracking, campaign URLs, and other performance metrics.
- Support seasonal marketing efforts through digital advertising landing pages and featured homepage content.
Analytics and Optimization
- Monitor site performance and engagement through Google Analytics (GA4) and Semrush.
- Identify trends, report findings, and make recommendations for user experience and SEO improvements.
- Maintain and update Monticello’s local listings and Google My Business profiles.
- Use data insights to refine digital content strategy and user flow.
Project Management and Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between the web team and other departments, including Education & Visitor Programs (EVP), Development, President’s Office, and ICJS.
- Coordinate with IT and vendors on technical improvements and system integrations.
- Maintain project timelines using Asana and support digital documentation for meetings and reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support Monticello’s digital initiatives, including the Bloomberg Connects app, by creating and editing content, audio, and images.
- QR code generation, tracking, and analytics for print and digital materials.
- Provide CMS training and troubleshooting for internal users.
- Contribute to digital accessibility efforts and ensure compliance with ADA standards.
- Assist with email testing and vanity URL creation for campaigns.
- Participate in cross-departmental digital media working groups.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with content management systems (Drupal, Craft, WordPress)
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone, accuracy, and brand voice.
- Experience with Google Analytics, SEO, and web performance tools (Semrush, Amazon Web Services).
- Familiarity with HTML, image editing (Photoshop or Canva), and accessibility best practices.
- Experience with AI-tools to support content creation.
- Excellent project management and cross-departmental communication skills.
- Interest in history, education, and public engagement strongly preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, journalism, museum studies, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience managing website content; preference for experience with large websites and e-commerce.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sit for extended periods of time, occasional standing, walking. Repetitive use of computer.
