What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Technology Specialist position at Thomas & Hutton?
We are hiring an experienced IT Support Specialist to serve as the dedicated IT presence for our North Georgia and Tennessee office cluster. This is a field-first, high-autonomy role. You will be the primary boots-on-the-ground IT resource for approximately 100 users across multiple offices, operating with independence and sound judgment while staying closely connected to a collaborative IT team headquartered in Savannah, GA. You won't be sitting at a help desk. You'll be moving between offices, solving real problems, and building trusted relationships with engineers, project managers, and firm leadership.
If you thrive working independently, take pride in a well-run environment, and want a role where your impact is visible and your growth path is real, this position is built for you.
What You'll Do
Field Support and Site Coverage
- Serve as the primary on-site IT resource across the North GA and TN office cluster, with regular travel to all assigned locations
- Diagnose and resolve Tier-2 hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues, escalating infrastructure-level problems to the senior sysadmin team
- Perform computer refreshes, hardware deployments, and peripheral installations following established runbooks and Autopilot provisioning processes
- Maintain and manage IT asset inventory across all assigned offices, including hardware lifecycle tracking, warranty records, and fulfillment coordination
Day-to-Day Support
- Provide responsive Tier-1 and Tier-2 support for in-office and remote staff across all locations
- Support end users on core platforms including Microsoft 365, Teams, Active Directory, Egnyte, Windows 11, and mobile devices
- Assist with onboarding new employees: account setup, device provisioning, and orientation to IT systems
- Collaborate with the team members on escalations and cross-regional issues
Projects and Process
- Participate in IT infrastructure projects including the firm's ongoing Microsoft Intune rollout
- Document systems, processes, and site-specific configurations to support team knowledge and continuity
- Identify recurring issues and surface process improvement opportunities to the senior sysadmin
- Support technology implementations from initiation through deployment and post-launch stabilization
Relationships
- Build high-trust relationships with office staff and firm leadership
- Represent the IT team with professionalism and clear communication
- Provide end-user training and guidance as needed
What We're Looking For
Required
- 3–5 years of experience in a field IT, multi-site support, or MSP technician role
- Demonstrated experience supporting Windows 10/11 endpoints in an Active Directory environment including imaging, troubleshooting, and configuration
- Working knowledge of core networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and basic switch and access point troubleshooting
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Comfortable managing your own schedule, prioritizing across multiple open issues, and operating without daily supervision
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly across the North GA and TN region. Travel is a core and ongoing part of this role, not an occasional ask.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate technical issues clearly for non-technical users and document work thoroughly in a ticketing system.
Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Endpoint Manager, or Autopilot device provisioning
- Familiarity with Meraki networking equipment (switches, access points, dashboard management)
- Experience with Egnyte or comparable cloud file platforms
- Background supporting engineering, architecture, or professional services firms
- CompTIA A , Network , or Microsoft certifications
- Prior experience with ITSM platforms such as Freshservice, ServiceNow, or similar
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent professional experience. We value demonstrated capability over credentials.
