Optical Performance Manager
Reports To: Director of Optometric Services

Position Summary
The Optical Performance Manager serves as the primary field support leader for optical operations. This role works directly with clinic teams to deliver training, reinforce operational standards, and coach staff to improve optical capture rate, contact lens sales, and overall clinic performance. This is a highly performance-driven role requiring measurable impact across multiple locations.
Primary Responsibilities
Field Training & Coaching
- Deliver and reinforce optical training programs in clinic environments
- Provide hands-on coaching to opticians and contact lens staff
- Reinforce product knowledge, selling behaviors, and patient engagement techniques
- Demonstrate measurable improvement in staff performance following coaching interventions
Revenue Performance Support
- Coach clinic teams to improve optical capture rate and contact lens sales performance
- Partner with Practice Managers to strengthen retail performance and staff capability
- Drive measurable increases in key performance metrics across supported locations
Operational Gap Identification
- Evaluate workflows and performance to identify operational or knowledge gaps
- Provide actionable insights to support training and performance improvement strategies
Operational Compliance & Auditing
- Conduct posting and discount compliance reviews
- Support insurance and claims audit oversight to ensure billing accuracy and revenue capture
- Monitor inventory discipline and workflow adherence
Execution of Performance Plans
- Implement improvement plans developed with the Optical Strategy & Vendor Manager
- Support Practice Managers in driving accountability and performance
- Ensure adoption of strategic initiatives across all locations
Success Measures
- Improved optical capture rate and contact lens revenue
- KPI consistency across locations
- Reduced remakes and improved claims accuracy
- Successful ramp-up of newly onboarded opticians
Qualifications
- Multi-location optical leadership experience with demonstrated performance outcomes
- Proven ability to coach and develop opticians with measurable results
- Strong retail sales performance background with ownership of KPIs
- Experience identifying and correcting operational and compliance gaps
- Experience with Compulink (Advantage), Modernizing Medicine (ModMed) EMR or similar platform
Candidate Must Demonstrate
- Specific examples of improving capture rate, revenue, or staff performance
- Experience coaching underperforming team members to measurable improvement
- Ability to hold teams accountable and enforce operational standards
Extensive travel required: Candidate must have reliable transportation and be comfortable with frequent local travel. This role supports 17 clinic locations and requires consistent in-person presence across sites. The Optical Performance Manager will travel the majority of the week (approximately 80–90%) to deliver training, coaching, and operational support.
