Your Role and Impact
As a Certified Dietary Manager (CDM), you will lead the overall dining and nutrition services within our community, ensuring a seamless blend of hospitality and clinical excellence. You'll be responsible for overseeing daily operations, coordinating with the culinary team, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards — all while delivering a warm, personalized dining experience to our residents. You will mentor and manage your team, foster positive relationships with residents and staff, and drive performance through thoughtful leadership. Your role is key in creating a dining environment that not only meets nutritional needs but also enhances quality of life through exceptional service and attention to detail.
What you will do
Nutritional Oversight
- Partner with the Director, Chef, and Registered Dietitian to create and implement menus that meet nutritional standards, accommodate special diets, and honor cultural/religious preferences.
- Balance operational and clinical duties as outlined by the District Manager.
Clinical Charting
- Complete and maintain documentation aligned with CMS and ANFP standards, including:
- Food preferences and low-risk charting
- Participation in QAPI processes
- Additional clinical tasks specific to the community
Team Management
- Supervise, train, schedule, and support dietary staff (cooks, servers, kitchen aides).
- Serve as the subject matter expert on therapeutic and texture-modified diets in the absence of the Registered Dietitian.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, OBRA, HACCP).
- Maintain compliance with sanitation, safety, and dietary standards.
Resident Engagement
- Collaborate with residents, families, and care teams to assess needs and enhance satisfaction.
- Participate in care plan reviews and gather feedback to inform continuous improvement.
- Support and innovate resident programming (e.g., Cultivate Kitchen, lifestyle events).
Inventory & Budgeting
- Manage food and supply inventories, control costs, and ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
- Maintain high standards for quality and menu variety.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine inspections of kitchen and dining operations.
- Monitor food safety practices and maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
Program Development
- Introduce creative dining initiatives (e.g., themed meals, wellness-focused programs).
- Collaborate with leadership to evaluate and improve resident satisfaction metrics.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities and duties as assigned to support departmental and community goals.
Professional and Nutritional Expertise
- Proficient in nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
- Administration of human resources policies and procedures.
- Implementation of safety policies and procedures.
- Application of professional standards in the workplace.

Resident Relations
- Interfaces regularly and professionally with Culinary staff, administrators, the Director of Nursing, Executive Directors, residents, and their families.
- Participates in client meetings, training sessions, and activities as needed.
Financial
- Proven ability in meeting and maintaining budget goals.

- Position may require up to 25% clinical support and 75% operational oversight.
What you will need
- Current Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) credential and Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP) designation required. Higher level of certification allowed. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in food service management, preferably in senior living, healthcare, or a CCRC setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; proficiency in menu planning and dietary software; knowledge of therapeutic diets and senior nutrition.
- Ability to use EMR system, menu management system, and proficient knowledge in Teams and Microsoft 365 are mandatory.
- Maintenance of Annual CE (continuing education) requirements within the industry and regulatory bodies. Log CE credits with ANFP.
- ServSafe and/or State Certified in Safe Food Handling and Sanitation, where required by location.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Capacity to lead and assist in a fast-paced, dynamic dining environment.
Strong verbal communication and visual attention to detail for guest service and food quality assurance.
