Detention Deputy – Thomas County Jail (New 64-Bed Facility)

Thomas County Sheriff’s Office is hiring Detention Deputy for our brand new, state-of-the-art 64-bed jail facility in Colby, Kansas. This is an exciting opportunity to join a professional, team-oriented environment with competitive pay, benefits, and growth opportunities in public safety.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise inmates and maintain safety and order within the facility
- Conduct head counts, security checks, and inmate searches
- Monitor inmate behavior and respond to incidents as needed
- Assist in booking, releasing, and transportation of inmates
- Complete reports and maintain documentation in accordance with policy
- Work effectively with law enforcement, medical staff, and court personnel
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
