Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Preparer with a strong background in business taxation and accounting to join our growing firm. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional CPA or EA with 5–7 years of public accounting experience and/or experience as Senior Tax Staff / Senior Tax Preparer or similar. It's critical that you understand the full financial picture: tax compliance, accounting, and advisory, and can work confidently with business owners, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal and state tax returns, including:
- Business returns (Forms 1065, 1120S, 1120)
- Individual returns (Forms 1040)
- Trust and estate returns (Forms 1041)
- Business returns (Forms 1065, 1120S, 1120)
- Analyze financial statements, general ledgers, and accounting records to ensure tax accuracy and compliance
- Reconcile book-to-tax differences and identify tax planning opportunities
- Collaborate with accounting and advisory teams to support clients year-round
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information, clarify issues, and explain tax positions
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, deadlines, and firm quality standards
- Assist with notices, extensions, and amended returns as needed
- Support tax planning, projections, and advisory work for business clients
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in business taxation and accounting
- Experience with trusts, estates, and multi-entity structures
- Minimum 5-7 years of tax preparation experience (public accounting preferred)
- Solid understanding of financial statements, bookkeeping, and GAAP concepts
- Proficiency with tax software (Lacerte)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines during tax season
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, EA, or actively pursuing certification
- Prior experience working with closely held businesses and high-net-worth clients
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and other accounting platforms
- Advisory mindset with interest in long-term client relationships
