What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Quality Engineer (1st shift) position at THK Rhythm North America Co., LTD?
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Warranty Process Ownership
- Own and manage the end-to-end warranty process: intake and log-in of returned parts, analysis, disposition, reporting, and closure
- Serve as the technical lead for field failures, and warranty claims
- Triage, prioritize, and investigate field quality concerns based on risk, severity, and customer impact
- Analyze warranty and field data to identify trends, repeat issues, and emerging risks
- Coordinate containment actions including sorting, stop-ship, and field containment when required
- Support warranty cost reduction initiatives through root cause elimination
Lab and Measurement Data Support
- Provide technical support to the QA Lab Supervisor and QA Technicians on day-to-day measurement data interpretation and problem-solving
- Lab equipment programming in coordination with the QA Lab Supervisor and QA Technicians including but limited to, CMM, Digital Optical Comparator, Microscope, Rigidity Tester, Tensile/Compression Tester,
- Apply GD&T to interpret engineering drawings and provide clarification on dimensional requirements for warranty and field-return parts
- Conduct failure analysis of returned parts and field samples in coordination with the QA Lab Supervisor and QA Technicians
- Partner with the QA Lab Supervisor on inspection planning and measurement approach for warranty-related parts, without direct ownership of lab equipment, staff, or scheduling
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
Lead structured problem-solving activities (e.g., 8D, A3, etc.)
Perform and/or coordinate root cause analysis using tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone, and Fault Tree Analysis
Issue Corrective Action Requests (CARs) directly to internal departments or suppliers when nonconformances are identified during warranty or lab analysis
Define, implement, and track permanent corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and confirm clean point establishment
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the QA Lab Supervisor, QA Technicians, Manufacturing, Plant Quality, Design
Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Operations to resolve field issues
- Support design or process changes required to address field failures
- Contribute to reliability improvement and lessons learned for future programs
- Support preventive quality activities based on field feedback and lessons learned
Customer Communication and Reporting
- Communicate investigation status, corrective actions, and GD&T/dimensional findings to customers and internal stakeholders
- Prepare technical reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and customers, including lab and CMM data summaries
- Maintain accurate documentation of investigations, lab results, corrective actions, and customer communications
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality system requirements (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 9001) Identify opportunities to improve field quality processes, complaint handling, lab throughput, and response time
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Technology.
Understanding of automated assembly, forming, welding, machining and painting processes.
Understanding of statistical analysis techniques for process control and monitoring.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, organizational skills, basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office).
Ability to work well in a team environment, well organized, strong documentation skills Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to present data in prescribed method.
ASQ Certification (CQE, CQA, CQM, etc...)
Strong written and verbal communication skills including computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Experience in deploying Lean/Continuous Improvement in a high mix, high volume environment is preferred
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
