What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Policy Intern, Economic Program (Fall 2025) position at Third Way?

Third Way is a national think tank and advocacy organization that champions moderate policy and political ideas. Since our founding in 2005, we have served as a critical bulwark against political extremism by advancing values-driven, reform-oriented solutions on the defining issues of our time. Our work is grounded in the mainstream American values of opportunity, freedom, security, and democratic capitalism, and we advocate for the vital center across seven major areas: climate and energy, economy, education, health care, national security, politics, and social policy.

We are seeking a Health Policy Intern who is eager to learn about health care policy, help advance solutions to lower costs and expand access and contribute to Third Way’s mission of defending and building on the Affordable Care Act. The Health Policy Intern will:

  • Support the health policy team in drafting memos, blog posts, fact sheets, and other written content that translates complex health care issues into clear, compelling language;
  • Track congressional hearings and news developments related to health policy;
  • Assist in the preparation of policy briefings and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including Hill staff, industry leaders, and advocacy organizations;
  • Collaborate with other teams—such as communications, development, and events—to promote health policy initiatives and digital content;
  • Update press lists and partnership contacts.

Internship Short-Term Projects:

  • Compiling press contacts from regional and national outlets.

Internship Long-Term Projects:

  • To be determined based on team needs.

*Please note all duties and events will require in-office participation. All Third Way staff are required to be vaccinated. This is a part-time, PAID INTERNSHIP. *

This might be the job for you, if you…

  • Are a current student or recent graduate with a strong interest in health care policy, politics, or public policy;
  • Have excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex topics for a general audience;
  • Want to learn how policy ideas are developed, communicated, and advanced in Washington;
  • Are proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized;
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally;
  • Are curious, adaptable, and eager for professional development;
  • Are passionate about making an impact and contributing to Third Way’s mission to champion moderate, solutions-focused ideas.

In the Third Way Culture, we are looking for…

  • Self-starters: People who see and seize opportunities, take risks, learn from failure, and will bring a sustained passion for our mission;
  • Collaborators: People who work in teams—sharing ideas, brainstorming, co-authoring products, and advancing its shared priorities;

  • Respectful: People who embrace the diverse perspectives of everyone and fosters the values of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness at all times.
