SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Personal Protection Order Coordinator, the Personal Protection Order (PPO) Docket Assistant Coordinator provides direct support to the PPO Docket Coordinator, assisting with the high-volume and fast-paced PPO docket. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of PPO petitions and related legal documents. The Assistant Coordinator helps manage the docket, supports the public and maintains positive relationships with community partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Case Processing and Review: Review incoming PPO petitions and motions for completeness and accuracy. Prepare proposed orders. Support the PPO Docket Coordinator by assisting with case processing and ensuring all documents meet court and statutory time standards. Ensures Friend of the Court cases are processed correctly with regard to domestic and family violence codes.
• Docket Management Support: Assist with the overall administration of the PPO docket and its time standards. Help ensure the prompt processing of PPO requests and efficient docket scheduling. Assist in preparing and reviewing required reports.
• Public and Professional Liaison: Act as a liaison between the public, the court, the Friend of the Court and domestic violence advocates, under the supervision of the PPO Docket Coordinator. Help refer litigants to appropriate court and community resources.
• Administrative Support: Provide administrative support for the development and implementation of policies to improve the efficiency of PPO processing. Assist in maintaining positive relationships with community service agencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate of an accredited law school.
• Member of State Bar of Michigan in good standing.
• Knowledge of Michigan Court Rules, case law and statutes regarding PPOs, family law, and domestic violence.
• If an employee drives on behalf of the Court, the employee must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license, no fault insurance and access to a vehicle to use in the performance of assigned duties.
• Proficient using MS Office Suite and relevant software and systems-experience using case management systems, preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time to perform job functions.
• Ability to detect, create, and interpret documents.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
