This is a REMOTE position with a preference for local candidates. We are looking for an energetic Teradata Database Administrator (DBA) to support the growing demands of our client’s internal business customers. This position is a key member of a team sharing responsibilities for: Physical, Enterprise Level Teradata Database Administration; Performance Monitoring and Tuning; Ensuring Data Quality & Governance; and, Meta Data & Master Data management. Specifically, your duties will be to: perform physical database administration (dba) tasks in Teradata; design and build simple to complex database structures from data models; proactively perform database monitoring and performance tuning tasks; provide rotating 24x7 on-call support for Teradata environments as necessary; identify and provide solutions to performance issues in multiple database environments; participate in the development and maintenance of high-quality data design strategies, guidelines, principles and standards; promote and maintain positive working relationships with application development teams and business users; collaborate with other data architects, application development team members and/or DBAs to resolve issues; communicate data design strategy, guidelines, principles and standards to the development teams; provide mentoring and education, along with technical guidance and direction to the application development teams; participate in quality assurance of conceptual, logical and physical data models; and, ensure logical and physical data models support the Enterprise Data Model (EDM) strategy.
Position requires 5 or more year’s total experience as physical DBA in Teradata. Two or more years of experience in database/application performance tuning and monitoring tools needed. Experience in database problem identification, problem diagnosis and resolution; experience in designing conceptual, logical and physical data models using industry-standard tools (e.g. Erwin, Power Designer); and, experience in the normalization process and Entity-Relationship data modeling techniques all required. Experience leading an offshore team, assigning work, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality is an important part of this role. Knowledge of data quality and data governance tools, enterprise data architecture frameworks and, a variety of database, ETL, and application concepts, practices and procedures are a must. Knowledge of current trends in data technologies: data services, data virtualization, data integration, Master Data Management, Hadoop/Big Data is essential. Knowledge of Agile development and the Scaled Agile Framework is desirable. Experience in effective communication at different levels (i.e. junior team members, peers, management, and senior management) of the organization is a must. Experience providing technical data design guidance and direction needed. Must have ability to build strong relationships across organizations, Strong leadership skills, problem-solving skills and exceptional, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with development teams to convey the value of enterprise data modeling, data quality and data governance practices a must. A BS/MS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the field of Database Administration required.
