POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a talented UI/UX Designer & Developer to join a multi-year project supporting enterprise applications for the NYC Department of Education. This hybrid, full-time role will design and develop user-centered web interfaces that improve usability, accessibility, and adoption across critical DOE systems. The ideal candidate combines design expertise with front-end development skills, ensuring modern, intuitive, and accessible experiences for thousands of users.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead discovery, planning, and user research to define design requirements.
Create wireframes, journey maps, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
Translate research findings into intuitive, accessible interfaces that comply with WCAG 2.x standards.
Develop and implement UI components using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and project managers to deliver cohesive solutions.
Conduct usability testing and iterate designs based on feedback.
Support Agile sprints with design deliverables and ensure consistency across systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: 8 years in UI/UX design and front-end development.
Technical Skills: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD (or similar prototyping tools).
Expertise: Strong knowledge of user-centered design, journey mapping, wireframing, and prototyping.
Accessibility: Demonstrated experience designing to WCAG 2.x compliance.
Collaboration: Excellent communication and ability to work with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with large-scale enterprise or public-sector systems.
Familiarity with DOE or government accessibility and compliance standards.
