Position Summary:
As a Substation P&C Lead Technician in the electric utility industry, you will oversee the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of substation equipment responsible for protecting and controlling the flow of electricity within the power grid. This role requires effective leadership of a Substation P&C crew, including managing project schedules and ensuring adherence to safety and technical standards.
Candidates must demonstrate expertise in digital and electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), Station Disturbance Recorders (SDRs), Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs), RTUs, SCADA systems, metering and telemetering, and various communications equipment, including PLC, tone, pilot-wire, and fiber systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a competent safety leader with a minimum of OSHA 30 Certification.
- Exhibit a solid understanding of zones of protection and identify insufficient protection schemes.
- Apply client-specific P&C standards or demonstrate the ability to learn them rapidly.
- Provide timely documentation of as-built/as-left prints and test results.
- Analyze and test current transformer (CT) circuits with a strong understanding of related principles.
- Interpret and utilize P&C drawings, including schematics, wiring/logic diagrams, and cable schedules.
- Troubleshoot complex systems with advanced problem-solving skills.
- Commission and test microprocessor-based relays, including test plan development, execution, and end-to-end testing.
- Perform testing of Power Line Carrier (PLC) schemes including wave traps and line tuners.
- Conduct full SCADA checkout, including RTU configuration application and point verification.
- Apply Human Performance tools effectively in daily operations.
- Develop and execute detailed isolation and cut-over plans.
- Follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures rigorously, with knowledge of elevated requirements.
- Direct physical workers, wiremen, equipment specialists, and other team members to complete P&C tasks safely and efficiently.
- Understand and manage clearance points/zones as defined by the operating authority.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.

Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in protection and control within substation environments.
- OSHA 30 Construction Safety Certification required.
- Deep understanding of P&C principles and field practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in relay testing and commissioning.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- High commitment to workplace and electrical safety.
