Position Summary:
The Bindery Cutter/Folder Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of bindery equipment, including the Polar Cutter, MBO Folder. This role ensures finished materials meet production quality and schedule standards while contributing to team training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report workflow and technical concerns to the Bindery Manager to ensure timely resolution and process optimization.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve complex bindery projects.
- Set up and operate the Polar Cutter, MBO Folder in accordance with production standards and safety protocols.
- Read and interpret job jackets, layouts, and digital proofs (Dylux) accurately.
- Meet company standards for make-ready times and production run efficiency.
- Communicate feedback to the Bindery Manager regarding production expectations and job standards.
- Consistently produce high-quality work within established timeframes.
- Coach and guide General Workers, Apprentice Bindery staff, and temporary labor assisting with stitching or other equipment.
- Operate additional bindery machinery as needed to support department flexibility and efficiency.
- Recommend necessary equipment repairs, parts, or supplies.
- Participate in shift hand-offs to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Engage in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Basic knowledge of bindery operations, including experience with saddle stitchers.
- Familiarity with Polar Cutters, MBO Folders and general bindery processes.
- Ability to read and follow job instructions, layouts, and specifications.
- Basic math skills including fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Understanding of production materials, equipment maintenance, and quality control methods.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
