Schedule: 12-Hour Day Shift, 6:30 AM-7:00 PM
About the Role
Join Thermo Fisher Scientific's Filtration Solutions Division (FSD) in Stafford Springs, CT, and help deliver high-quality products that support life-saving medicines, laboratory essentials, and next-generation scientific instruments. As a Production Inspection Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining production and quality standards while supporting our mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
Working within our Operations team and utilizing the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System, you will contribute to efficient manufacturing processes, continuous improvement initiatives, and the production of products relied upon by customers around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Line Operators in operating production equipment according to work instructions and established procedures.
- Use sound judgment to identify and correct issues during production.
- Exercise authority to stop production when equipment performance, employee safety, or product quality is at risk.
- Safely shut down equipment when necessary in the absence of the Line Operator.
- Perform quality tests throughout production runs and maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Process, inspect, and pack materials as they come off the production line.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth and efficient manufacturing operations.
- Seek guidance regarding quality standards, machine functions, and operational requirements when needed.
- Follow all plant, company, and departmental safety rules and procedures.
- Report all safety hazards or concerns to supervision immediately.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
- Properly label all products produced.
- Handle hazardous waste as required.
- Complete additional duties, including training assignments and miscellaneous tasks, as assigned by department supervision or leadership.
- Perform all essential functions identified in the applicable Employer Job Description maintained by the Occupational Health Office.
Environment
This position involves working in a manufacturing and production environment with the following conditions:
- Ability to stand for a full 12-hour shift.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance and up to 50 pounds as required by the role.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Work with hazardous and/or toxic materials.
- Compliance with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.
- Experience in and adherence to cleanroom requirements, including: No hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair
- No contact lenses permitted; prescription safety glasses will be provided.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coats, ear plugs, and other required equipment.
- Exposure to fluctuating hot and cold temperatures.
- Exposure to loud equipment and machinery noise.
- Work in a dynamic and sometimes fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Operate production equipment and machinery while handling production materials.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Basic math skills, including working with formulas, decimals, and fractions.
- Knowledge of simple measuring devices.
- Ability to stand for a 12-hour period.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- One or more years of experience in manufacturing, production, operations, a laboratory environment, or a related field preferred.
- Basic machinery knowledge preferred.
- Experience in a cGMP or GMP-regulated environment preferred.
