As part of Thermal Concepts, Hunter Mechanical is expanding its commercial service operations and looking for experienced Commercial HVAC & Hot Side Service Technicians to join our team throughout Virginia.
This is an excellent opportunity for technicians who enjoy working independently, solving challenging service issues, and building their technical skills within a growing organization. We are looking for technicians at both the Level 2 and Level 3 level, depending on experience and technical capabilities.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC/R and refrigeration equipment.
- Service commercial rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, walk-in coolers/freezers, and ice machines.
- Perform preventative maintenance and identify potential equipment issues before they become major repairs.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical components, including motors, compressors, controls, thermostats, valves, and heating elements.
- Service commercial cooking equipment such as ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, steamers, and other food-service equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair exhaust fans, make-up air units, and related commercial kitchen equipment.
- Work with electrical, gas, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
- For senior-level technicians: troubleshoot more advanced equipment and systems, including chillers, VAV systems, boilers, VFDs, and building management/control systems.
- Complete accurate service reports and document repairs using company systems.
- Maintain appropriate truck inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Communicate repair recommendations and options professionally with customers.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable EPA requirements.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to less-experienced technicians when needed.
What We're Looking For
Level 2 Technicians:
- 2–4 years of commercial HVAC/R, refrigeration, hot-side, or food-equipment service experience.
- Ability to independently diagnose and complete routine and moderately complex service calls.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with commercial equipment and systems.
Level 3 Technicians:
- 5 years of commercial HVAC/R and/or hot-side service experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities with complex commercial systems.
- Experience with advanced HVAC/R equipment, controls, or commercial cooking systems.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable assisting and mentoring junior technicians.
Required Qualifications
- EPA Universal Certification (608) required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and commercial HVAC systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, including single- and three-phase equipment.
- Ability to work with gas, electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field.
Preferred:
- NATE certification.
- CFESA certification or commercial cooking-equipment experience.
- Manufacturer-specific HVAC/R or controls certifications.
- Experience with BMS/EMS or commercial building controls.
