Job Summary
The Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with speech, language, voice, and communication disorders. The therapist works with children and/or adults to develop individualized treatment plans aimed at improving communication abilities and enhancing quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and diagnose speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders through standardized tests and evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
- Provide therapy to improve articulation, language comprehension, voice production, and fluency.
- Work with patients who have swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) to improve feeding and swallowing safety.
- Collaborate with teachers, physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and family members to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress, therapy sessions, and treatment outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families on communication strategies and exercises to practice at home.
- Use assistive and augmentative communication (AAC) devices when appropriate.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices and advancements in speech-language pathology.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, workshops, and continuing education programs.
Basic qualifications
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to speech therapy.
- Familiarity with anatomy and physiology relevant to speech production.
- Experience working in school settings or with pediatric populations.
- Education: Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
- Licensure/Certification: State licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP); Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (or equivalent national board) preferred.
