Position Overview & Mission:

  • Provide stable and secure Databases for ALL Fast Retailing brands.
  • Optimize cloud costs for Database utilization.
  • Design and implement consistent policies for Database standards on a global basis.
  • Align with the latest Database and related technologies.
  • Education, Efficiency and Automation.

Primary Focus Areas:

  • Manage/Administrator/Support a shared, microservices based application environment that hosts major databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.
  • Incident Management and Troubleshooting/Analysis of database issues.
  • Design, develop, optimize, maintain and support database management processes and solutions using AWS / Microsoft / GCP cloud technologies in a DevOps environment.
  • Pro-actively participate and contribute to the performance and reliability of the database systems.
  • Work with Business Users/Analysts to translate business SLA requirements into well-engineered, high-performing and secure database systems.
  • Work closely with DevOps, Data Engineers and Developers, to participate in the architecture, design and development of enterprise data solutions and ad-hoc data needs.
  • Document and maintain database inventory across the shared services platform.


Responsibilities:

The DBA would be responsible for L1 and L2 support for all databases in scope and would be the primary contact for DB activities including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Incident Management and Analysis - Manage, Track to closure, Analyze, Resolve and Document incidents/issues for the databases in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Resource Allocation and Management: Manage database resources, such as CPU, memory, and storage, to prevent resource contention and ensure fair distribution among applications and tools.
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Pro-actively monitor database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and proactively optimizing query execution plans, indexes, and database configurations. This ensures efficient use of resources and enhances overall system performance.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implement robust backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and provide rapid data recovery in case of failures or disasters. This ensures the reliability and stability of the shared platform.
  • Security and Access Controls: Enforce security measures, access controls, and encryption to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and ensure data privacy and compliance with regulations.
  • Database Provisioning and Scaling: Manage the provisioning of new databases and scaling existing databases to meet the evolving demands of applications and tools on the shared platform. This ensures scalability and flexibility in data storage.
  • Data Replication and High Availability: Configure database replication and high availability mechanisms to minimize downtime and provide continuous access to critical data for applications and users.
  • Capacity Planning: Regularly conduct capacity planning to forecast future resource requirements and ensure that the shared platform can meet growing demands while maintaining optimal performance.
  • Query Optimization and Troubleshooting: Optimize complex queries, identifying and resolving performance issues. They collaborate with application developers to troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems.
  • Version and Change Management: Manage database schema changes and versioning to coordinate updates and ensure compatibility between different applications and tools.
  • Monitoring and Alerting: Set up monitoring and alerting systems to proactively detect issues and promptly respond to potential problems in the shared platform, ensuring observability and quick incident resolution.
  • Collaboration with DevOps, Data Architects and Developers: Collaborate with DevOps, data architects and application developers to understand data requirements and recommend database design improvements, data modeling enhancements, and best practices.
  • Database Security Audits: Regularly conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain a secure database environment and address potential security risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on managing cloud-based databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL in AWS / Azure / GCP cloud environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of AWS/Microsoft/GCP cloud services such as Networking, Security, and Alerts and Monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of database modeling principles, governance, and security practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and managing large scale databases.
  • Demonstrated expertise in optimizing cloud costs.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • AWS / Microsoft / GCP Certification.
  • Understanding of microservices-based architecture.
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies is a definite plus.
  • Experience with Project Management Methodologies like Agile, ITIL.
  • Experience with Apparel Retailing Business.


Salary: $110,000.00 to 130,000.00*


*The offered salary or salary range is based on several factors, including, but not limited to, overall experience, relevant experience, education level, certifications, applicable skills and expertise, and location of the position.
