Staff Accountant

Description

Summary/Objective  

The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. 

Duties/Responsibilities 

• Perform general accounting and other related duties for the organization. 
• Assist in the preparation of monthly balance sheets and profit and loss statements. 
• Maintain general ledger. 
• Reconcile accounts and assist in closing the monthly books. 
• Assist in recording vendor bills in the accounting system. 
• Assist the Payroll Specialist (or equivalent) with the payroll process. 
• Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks. 
• Record and reconcile customer accounts and other financial accounts; manage accounts receivable collections. 
• Provide outside auditor with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit. 
• File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies. 
• Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. 
• Take part in accounting department weekend coverage of the daily duties as needed from May – September. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned.  

Supervisory Responsibilities  

• Assist the Senior Staff Accountant in overseeing the accounting interns.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
• Knowledge of general financial accounting. 
• Understanding the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. 
• Ability to correctly prepare sales tax reports. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as other accounting software programs. 
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding TRMF information, guests, and staff. 

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field required. 
• At least three years of related experience required. 

Work Environment

This position is in an office environment. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are required from April through October.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. at times. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.
