LEAD TODDLER TEACHER

Position Summary

We are seeking a nurturing, dependable, energetic, and experienced Lead Toddler Teacher to join our childcare team. The Lead Toddler Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, loving, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for toddlers while supporting their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

The Lead Toddler Teacher will serve as the primary classroom leader, working closely with assistant teachers, families, and administration to ensure children receive high-quality care and learning experiences each day.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, nurturing, and age-appropriate care to toddlers.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
• Follow all Theo’s Theory Preschool & Childcare policies and procedures.
• Follow all KDHE childcare licensing regulations, including supervision and child-to-teacher ratios.
• Plan and implement daily activities that promote social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development.
• Follow the classroom's daily schedule and curriculum.
• Provide age-appropriate learning activities including art, music, sensory play, books, movement, and hands-on exploration.
• Support children's developing independence and self-help skills.
• Assist children with meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, handwashing, and other daily routines.
• Maintain accurate classroom records, attendance, and required documentation.
• Complete daily lesson plans and classroom activities as required.
• Observe children's development and communicate concerns or milestones to administration and families.
• Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and guardians.
• Communicate respectfully and effectively with classroom staff and administration.
• Lead and support assistant teachers by providing direction and maintaining consistent classroom expectations.
• Ensure all classroom cleaning and sanitizing procedures are completed throughout the day.
• Follow proper procedures for diapering, handwashing, food service, and illness prevention.
• Participate in outdoor play, gym activities, and other center-wide activities while maintaining active supervision.
• Take classroom pictures and document activities through Procare as required.
• Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
• Report accidents, injuries, incidents, or concerns to administration immediately.
• Protect the confidentiality and privacy of children and families.
• Serve as a positive role model for children and other staff members.

Lead Teacher Expectations

The Lead Toddler Teacher is expected to:

• Be actively engaged with the children at all times.
• Maintain proper supervision and never leave children unattended.
• Remain in ratio according to KDHE requirements.
• Keep personal cell phone use to a minimum and only use it when permitted for work-related purposes.
• Maintain a positive, patient, and encouraging attitude.
• Use appropriate language and positive guidance techniques with children.
• Work as a team and communicate concerns instead of allowing problems to continue.
• Arrive on time and be prepared for the classroom before children arrive.
• Maintain professionalism when communicating with children, families, and coworkers.
• Take ownership of the classroom and ensure daily responsibilities are completed.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with toddlers or young children preferred.
• Previous lead teacher or classroom leadership experience preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and coworkers.
• Must be dependable, responsible, patient, and nurturing.
• Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Must be able to meet all KDHE childcare licensing requirements.
• Must complete required background checks and fingerprinting.
• Must complete required childcare training within the required timeframes.

Physical Requirements

The Lead Toddler Teacher must be able to:

• Lift and carry young children when necessary.
• Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and move throughout the classroom and playground.
• Respond quickly to children's needs and emergencies.
• Participate in active play and outdoor activities.
• Safely supervise children throughout the classroom, playground, gym, and other areas of the facility.

Work Environment

This position works in a busy childcare environment with toddlers. The teacher should be comfortable with noise, movement, frequent interaction, and the physical demands of caring for young children.

A successful Lead Toddler Teacher will create a classroom where children feel safe, loved, supported, and excited to learn, while maintaining a structured environment that meets the expectations of Theo’s Theory Preschool & Childcare #2 and KDHE licensing requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.50 - $16.00 per hour
