Job Overview
The Hospice Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing, leading, and continuously improving the organization's volunteer program in accordance with hospice Medicare Conditions of Participation, organizational goals, and the mission of THEMA Health Services and its agencies. This position recruits, screens, orients, trains, assigns, supports, evaluates, and retains volunteers for assigned branch(es) while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure volunteers enhance the quality of life for patients and families. The coordinator also develops community partnerships, promotes volunteerism, maintains regulatory compliance, and monitors program outcomes.

Duties

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive volunteer program.
  • Recruit volunteers through community outreach, presentations, colleges, veterans’ organizations, faith communities, online platforms, and special events.
  • Interview, screen, onboard, orient, and train volunteers in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Match volunteers with appropriate patient, family, office, bereavement, veteran, pet therapy, and special project assignments.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, coaching, recognition, annual evaluations, and retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to identify patient needs and appropriate volunteer involvement.
  • Maintain volunteer personnel files, competencies, health records, background checks, and annual education.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, state, accreditation, and company standards.
  • Track productivity, volunteer hours, direct patient care hours, recruitment metrics, and quality indicators; prepare required reports.
  • Represent the company at community events and cultivate partnerships that increase awareness and volunteer recruitment.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation events, continuing education, and recognition activities.
  • Participate in QAPI initiatives and contribute to organizational performance improvement.
  • Assist with budgeting, program planning, policy development, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of patients, families, and organizational goals
  • Foster a supportive, high-morale environment rooted in teamwork, empowerment, and positive leadership.
  • Consistently exceed company service standards while maintaining strict adherence to ethical codes and professional conduct.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two years of healthcare, hospice, volunteer management, or community outreach experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospice philosophy, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and volunteer program requirements.
  • Excellent communication, organization, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to recruit, train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate volunteers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
  • Frequent travel is required throughout the assigned service area(s) including Prescott, Flagstaff and Cottonwood. The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for supporting multiple branch locations within the region and must be willing and able to travel between branches as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of current automobile insurance are required

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
