THE THIRD MAN

SYNOPSIS: The American Premiere of The Third Man is a gripping theatrical adaptation of the classic noir film, set in post-World War II Vienna. The Third Man follows American writer Holly Martins as he arrives in a city divided by occupying forces to reconnect with his old friend Harry Lime, only to discover Lime has apparently died under mysterious circumstances. As Holly investigates, he is pulled into a shadowy world of deception, black-market dealings, and moral ambiguity. This thriller is a stylish, suspenseful, and cinematic exploration of loyalty and betrayal. This developmental production is directed by Sir Trevor Nunn, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning director of Broadway and West End musicals including Les Misérables, Cats, and Sunset Boulevard.

SEEKING:

HOLLY MARTINS: Male, 35-40, any ethnicity, handsome, single American writer. Under the name ‘Buck Dexter’, he is known for his Westerns. He had a best friend at school, to whom he is still enthralled, a friend called Harry Lime.

MAJOR CALLOWAY: Male 45-50, any ethnicity. An intelligent, articulate British Army officer, representing the UK in post-war Vienna – which is divided into four quarters.

ANNA SCHMIDT: Female, late 20s-early 30s, any ethnicity. A Czech singer in a cabaret bar …beautiful and polished, but off-stage, nervous and unsure. Devoted girlfriend of Harry Lime.

HARRY LIME/CRABBIT: Male, 35-40, any ethnicity. Harry Lime– charming, witty, and wanting to help his friend Holly earn a lot of money … but ruthless and dangerous if necessary. Crabbit – an official who runs the Cultural Re-Education Section of the British in Vienna … frequently confused.

SERGEANT PAINE: Male, 50s, any ethnicity. Calloway’s Number Two … loyal in every situation to his boss, and a devoted reader of the Buck Dexter novels.
