What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Low Voltage Technician position at the250network?
Lead Low Voltage Technician
Location: Richmond, VA
Temp to Full-Time | Field-Based
We’re hiring an experienced Lead Low Voltage Technician to join a growing telecommunications and network infrastructure team in the Richmond area.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who knows the low-voltage trade and has previous experience leading technicians and overseeing work in the field. You’ll work alongside your team while helping coordinate installations, maintain quality and safety standards, troubleshoot issues, and keep projects moving forward.
If you’re an experienced low-voltage technician who enjoys being the go-to person on a job site and helping other technicians succeed, this could be a great next step.
What You’ll Do
As a Lead Technician, you’ll be responsible for both technical execution and day-to-day field leadership. Responsibilities may include:
- Lead and support technicians on commercial low-voltage and telecommunications projects
- Install, route, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems
- Work with CAT5/6, coax, copper, single-mode and multi-mode fiber, and other low-voltage cabling
- Support installations involving network infrastructure, wireless systems, CCTV, access control, and related technologies
- Review project scope, drawings, schedules, and installation requirements before and during field work
- Assign or coordinate work among technicians based on project needs and skill levels
- Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians on proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and quality expectations
- Ensure completed work meets project specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements
- Identify field issues, scope changes, scheduling concerns, or resource needs and communicate them to project leadership
- Complete required testing, quality-control documentation, punch lists, and project closeout activities
- Maintain clear, professional communication with customers, project managers, and other field personnel
- Promote and enforce safe work practices across the job site
- Troubleshoot installation and connectivity issues and help determine appropriate solutions
- Help keep projects organized, efficient, and on schedule
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience serving as a Lead Technician, Crew Lead, Field Lead, or similar hands-on leadership role is required
- 3 years of professional low-voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications, or related field experience preferred
- Hands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling
- Experience with technologies such as structured cabling, fiber optics, TCP/IP networks, CCTV, wireless, and/or access control
- Ability to effectively lead, train, and provide direction to other field technicians
- Strong understanding of proper cabling installation practices and industry standards
- Familiarity with ANSI/TIA/EIA standards and applicable electrical/safety requirements
- Ability to read and work from project documentation, drawings, network diagrams, and scopes of work
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, ladders, and lifts
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and represent the team well on-site
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
Industry certifications such as BICSI, OSHA, manufacturer certifications, or other low-voltage/telecommunications credentials are a plus but are not required.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
This is an opportunity to take ownership in the field rather than simply complete assigned installations. You’ll have the ability to influence how projects are executed, mentor other technicians, solve problems on-site, and serve as a key connection between the field team and project leadership.
For someone who wants to continue growing within the low-voltage industry, this role can also provide a path toward increased technical leadership, field supervision, or project management responsibilities.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on field position performed primarily on active commercial job sites. Candidates should be comfortable:
- Working from ladders, scissor lifts, man lifts, and elevated work areas
- Working in ceilings, rooftops, construction environments, and confined spaces as required
- Bending, climbing, stooping, standing, and moving throughout the workday
- Lifting and moving tools, cable, equipment, and materials, including heavier items when required
- Following all required PPE, fall-protection, and job-site safety procedures
Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Ready for the Next Step?
If you have a strong low-voltage background, prior experience leading technicians in the field, and take pride in delivering quality work, we’d like to hear from you.
