Part-Time Prevention Specialist
The Zone Afterschool Program – Norfolk, NE
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Wage: $17 per hour
Position Overview
The Zone Afterschool Program is seeking a Part-Time Prevention Specialist to support prevention, awareness, and education efforts funded through the Region 4 Opioid Settlement Grant. This role focuses on reducing youth risk factors related to opioid misuse, strengthening protective factors, and promoting healthy decision-making among students in grades 7–12.

Key Responsibilities
Prevention Education & Programming
- Facilitate engaging, evidence-based prevention activities focused on opioid awareness, substance use prevention, and healthy coping skills.
- Lead small-group discussions and guide youth through online prevention and awareness courses.
- Track completion of online learning modules and distribute incentives through The ZoneMart program.
- Assist with planning and hosting family engagement opportunities, including Family Meal & Game Nights.
Youth Engagement
- Build positive, supportive relationships with youth in grades 7–12.
- Encourage youth participation and provide age-appropriate guidance on safety, refusal skills, and healthy choices.
- Support afterschool workshops, interactive lessons, and prevention awareness activities.
Community Outreach & Collaboration
- Assist with outreach to schools, families, and youth-serving organizations to share prevention resources.
- Support coordination of community awareness events and presentations.
- Attend local collaborative or prevention-related meetings once per month.
Data, Reporting & General Support
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records.
- Assist with required grant documentation, surveys, and reporting.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required certifications, including Naloxone trainer certification.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive environment aligned with The Zone’s mission.
Qualifications
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- Knowledge of substance use prevention is a plus; training will be provided.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to lead group activities and create a welcoming, engaging atmosphere.
- Reliable, organized, and motivated to support youth and community wellness.
- Must pass required background checks.
- Must be at least 25 years old with a clean driving record.
