Equipment Operator / Laborer

Pay Range: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, and equipment operating ability.

Position Summary

YB Excavation is seeking a dependable, hardworking Equipment Operator / Laborer to join our growing excavation team. This position is responsible for safely operating construction equipment while also assisting with manual labor as needed on a variety of residential and commercial excavation projects. The ideal candidate takes pride in producing quality work, maintains a positive attitude, works well with others, and is committed to safety and efficiency.

This position requires someone who is willing to perform whatever task is necessary to keep projects moving forward, whether operating equipment, assisting the crew on the ground, maintaining equipment, or helping ensure projects are completed on schedule.

Core Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

• Safely operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, mini excavators, and other construction equipment.
• Perform grading, trenching, site preparation, excavation, backfilling, and material movement.
• Read and follow grade stakes, blueprints, and project specifications when applicable.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs immediately.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly functioning equipment.

Labor Duties

• Assist with excavation, utility installation, grading, landscaping, and construction projects.
• Shovel, rake, compact, and perform other physical labor as required.
• Install pipe, drainage systems, retaining wall materials, and other construction components.
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with job site setup and cleanup.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all OSHA safety standards and company safety policies.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
• Identify and report safety hazards immediately.
• Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training.
• Promote a safety-first culture on every jobsite.

Teamwork

• Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
• Assist teammates whenever needed to keep projects moving efficiently.
• Represent The Yard Butler and YB Excavation professionally with customers and the public.
• Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends during peak season.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Preferred

• Previous excavation or construction experience.
• Experience operating heavy equipment.
• CDL (preferred but not required).
• Experience with underground utilities, grading, site preparation, or landscape construction.
