What You'll Do
As a Veterinary Assistant, you will work closely with our veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide outstanding medical care for companion animals while creating a welcoming experience for pet owners.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during patient examinations and treatments
- Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations, diagnostics, radiographs, blood draws, and procedures
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor recovery under supervision
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Perform laboratory sample collection and assist with in-house diagnostics
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in condition
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records
- Fill prescriptions and prepare discharge instructions
- Educate clients on preventive care, medications, nutrition, and post-operative care
- Maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels to ensure a clean and safe environment
- Stock medical supplies and assist with inventory management
- Deliver compassionate care while supporting a positive client experience
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced veterinary hospital
- Dependable, organized, and team-oriented
- Comfortable handling animals of various sizes and temperaments
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Animal Care Technician, Kennel Technician, Veterinary Receptionist, or in an animal hospital
- Experience with animal restraint techniques
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology
- Experience with electronic medical records or veterinary practice management software
- Interest in pursuing a long-term career in veterinary medicine
