Summary of Responsibilities:

The Resident Care Director (RCD) serves as the clinical leader of the community, overseeing all resident care services to ensure compassionate, person-centered care that meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Working in partnership with the Executive Director, the RCD is responsible for the clinical operations of the resident care department, including staff leadership, resident assessments, care planning, medication management, quality assurance, and coordination with healthcare providers. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and exceptional resident care.

Essential Functions/ Duties:

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:

Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management for Resident Care Coordinators, Medication Technicians, Resident Assistants, and other direct care staff.

  • Recruit, interview, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate resident care team members in collaboration with the Executive Director and Human Resources.
  • Ensure resident care services comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and maintain survey readiness at all times.
  • Oversee resident admissions, pre-admission assessments, comprehensive assessments, reassessments, and individualized support plans.
  • Monitor resident health status and coordinate appropriate interventions, physician communication, and transitions of care when changes in condition occur.
  • Ensure accurate completion and maintenance of resident records, assessments, medication administration records (MARs), incident reports, and other required clinical documentation.
  • Oversee medication management practices, including storage, administration oversight, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate resident care with physicians, pharmacies, hospice providers, therapists, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and other healthcare partners.
  • Lead care conferences and maintain effective communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Manage staffing within the resident care department by monitoring staffing levels, scheduling needs, attendance, productivity, and employee performance.
  • Ensure medication carts, treatment areas, clinical equipment, and resident care environments meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor quality indicators, investigate incidents, identify risks, implement corrective actions, and promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, emergency preparedness, workplace safety, and risk management programs.
  • Participate in the community's on-call rotation and respond to clinical or operational emergencies as needed.
  • Support resident satisfaction initiatives, assist with move-in coordination, participate in leadership meetings, and contribute to community operational goals.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the overall success of the community.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of Resident Care Coordinator, Medication Technicians, Resident Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and other direct care staff.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time position
  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities
  • Availability required to support staffing and resident care needs
Requirements:

Required Skills/ Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of geriatric care practices and resident-centered care
  • Understanding of dementia care and behavioral management techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing personal care homes
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health records, medication systems, and Microsoft Office

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. (Required)
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program (Required)
  • Current, active LPN license in the applicable state of employment (Required)
  • Associate degree or higher in nursing or related field (Preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in senior living, personal care, or healthcare setting (Required)
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Experience with dementia care and personal care home operations (Preferred)

Work Authorization/ Clearances:

  • Criminal History Clearances
  • FBI fingerprint clearance (if required)
  • Pre-employment drug screening (if applicable)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

Physical Requirements and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the community for extended periods
  • Ability to assist with resident care tasks when necessary
  • Ability to lift, transfer, or assist residents in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to operate standard office and healthcare equipment
