Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Clinical Training assists the Director of Clinical Training in overseeing the clinical training program for the students in the Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program, with responsibility for the practicum training aspects. This position involves a commitment to building a student-centered program focused on listening carefully to student concerns, professional development, integrity and ethics, and respect for diversity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist the DCT in the overall administration and oversight of the clinical training program for the PsyD program.
- Along with the DCT, assist with the development of relevant processes, policies, and procedures related to field placement, especially practicum.
- Participate in relevant committees, teams and meetings.
- Maintain adequate standards of practicum training consistent with program aims and the requirements of the APA Commission of Accreditation and the laws and regulations pertaining to psychologists in California.
- Work closely with Tech Support and the Field Placement Coordinator to maintain and improve data, process, and documentation management systems for practicum.
- Develop reports and produce data to support ongoing program evaluation, reaccreditation, and improvement.
- Supervision and oversight of practicum advisement staff.
- Advisement to and responsibility for students seeking practicum placement.
- Train, advise, and guide students through the process of practicum application, professional growth, and placement concerns.
- Develop and deliver workshops and training.
- Monitor progress of student performance, including evaluations, hour logs, and related requirements.
- Review practicum evaluations and assign grades.
- Identify students in need of additional support and/or who are experiencing problems in meeting competencies, offer coaching and problem solving and/or develop plans of support and/or remediation as needed.
- Communicate policy, requirements, tasks, and responsibilities to students, staff, agencies, and faculty clearly.
- Develop new practicum opportunities and maintain positive relationships with existing practicum agencies.
- Oversee periodic evaluation of practicum placements.
- Serve as the liaison between the Field Placement Office, and both internal and external practicum clinics/agencies.
- Serve as the liaison between the Wright Institute and the regional training community (i.e., attending BAPIC meetings, participating in leadership regarding doctoral training in the greater Bay Area).
- Work closely with the Director of Student Support, Director of Academics, case conference leaders, advanced clinical seminar instructors, and other faculty to collaborate on student concerns, policy, and procedure development.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and understand the complexity of intersectional identities, systemic constructs, and trauma-informed education.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
- Team management, leadership, and/or staff supervision experience.
- High level of skill in conflict resolution, mediation and managing sensitive discussions.
- Ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload.
- Skills in effective collaboration with teams and colleagues.
- Administrative skills required include excellent organization, data management, process management, and policy writing.
- Knowledge of APA Code of Ethics, accreditation standards, and California psychology licensure regulations and laws.
- Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and experience using student data management systems.
- Teaching and/or public speaking skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to use data to evaluate strategies, recommend changes, and analyze results.
- Excellent English writing and language skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful candidates must have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
- Licensed Psychologist or License eligible in California.
- Minimum of two years of administrative experience, preferably in higher education
- Teaching and/or professional experience in the field of clinical psychology
- At least one year of experience supervising and/or training graduate-level students

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects with or without assistance (up to 20lbs); close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, text, and figures; ability to do computer work: ability to travel to outside locations; ability to communicate and exchange information; ability to move about the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; and the ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function.
