Food Services Manager Job Description

Position Summary:
Food Services Manager is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with childcare regulations and dietary guidelines. This role ensures that all meals meet the needs of children, support healthy development, and adhere to safety and sanitation standards. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and passionate about providing children with healthy, enjoyable meals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow weekly menus that meet the Federal Foods Program guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies.
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children and staff, ensuring proper portion sizes. Meals will be delivered to each classrooms.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen, including proper storage of food and inventory management, laundering linens, and cleaning and sanitizing dishes, equipment, and food service areas.
- Follow all health, sanitation, and safety guidelines, including local health department regulations.
- Manage stock rotation and inventory to minimize waste and control costs.
- Collaborate with center staff to support meal schedules and special events.
- Maintain accurate records of menus, food temperatures, and kitchen maintenance.
- Supervise any kitchen staff or volunteers assisting in food preparation.
- Attend yearly center training regarding Federal Foods Program
- Perform documentation and monthly billing for Federal Foods Program
- Must maintain a food handler’s permit/certification
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and center events as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary or nutrition training preferred.
- Willingness to obtain Food Handler’s Permit/certification
- Experience in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen management; childcare experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of nutrition standards for children and dietary restrictions.
- Understanding of health, safety, and sanitation requirements in a childcare setting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position; may require early mornings or flexible hours to accommodate meal schedules.
- Active work environment in a childcare kitchen setting.
- Occasional lifting of food supplies and kitchen equipment.
Pay: $13.00 - $17.00 per hour
