Job Summary:

The Associate Principal works with the administrative team and faculty/staff to promote a positive campus climate by providing leadership and supervision for school activities, teaching and learning, and overall student management. The Associate Principal promotes 21st century educational excellence through the vigorous support of the mission and goals of The Academy so that all students prepare for a lifetime of learning. They employ best practices of educational administration and high professional standards while working cooperatively with administration, faculty, staff, students, families, and the community in the best interest of Academy students and the overall community. 

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Possesses or eligibility for Connecticut Certification as an Intermediate Administrator (092);
  • Demonstrated excellence as a secondary school educator;
  • Demonstrated excellence in human relations;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication, technology, and interpersonal skills; and
  • Positive attitude, integrity, and a sense of humor essential.

General Duties

  • Oversee and assist in the supervising of students and enforces social, behavioral, and attendance expectations;
  • Plans and directs teaching and learning activities consistent with the mission of The Academy;
  • Works with appropriate staff to maintain and revise curriculum based on systematic review and analysis;
  • Involves instructional staff in evaluating instructional strategies to meet student-learning needs;
  • Facilitates the hiring, training, and supervision of substitute teachers and tutors;
  • Oversees school library and learning assistance program;
  • Works with the administrative team to ensure the implementation of the disciplinary code based upon Board policy, Student Handbook regulations, and federal and state statutes;
  • Works with the administration and the faculty/staff to promote a safe, orderly, and productive campus environment conducive to teaching and learning;
  • Serves as a resource for staff in dealing with classroom and campus management issues;
  • Assists the Director of Guidance to facilitate school-wide assessments;
  • Facilitates communication between faculty, staff, students, and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts;
  • Counsels students and parents regarding school policies, regulations, and practices; and
  • Works with parents and other professionals in developing positive student behavior.
