Summary of Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist for Learn to Swim will instruct multi-level American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program for participants with a variety of skills and abilities from 6 months of age to adults. Responsible for providing aquatic learning in a safe environment. Plan and manage their classes, teach skills at the appropriate swimmer level and submit course records to the American Red Cross.

Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience: Must be able to swim. Previous experience conducting swim lessons is preferred, but not required.
Licenses And Certifications
Scheduling Demands: Hours vary depending on the season. Opportunities to work Spring, Summer, and Fall.
Pre-employment Requirements: Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) check, and Social Security Number verification check.
Computer Skills: Computer proficiency in MS Office preferred. Previous experience with ActiveNet preferred.
Safety-Sensitive: This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Responsible for providing aquatic learning in a safe environment. Plan and manage their classes, teach skills at the appropriate swimmer level and submit course records to the American Red Cross.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Instruct swim lessons as outlined in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and swim instructors to include answering questions at the pool, via email and phone.
- Conduct audits, complete write-up reports, and conduct weekly staff meetings.
- Responsible for Head Water Safety Instructors and Water Safety Instructors, including but not limited to scheduling, performance evaluations, and communicating with parents.
- Complete registrations, make changes, and issue refunds using ActiveNet computer software.
- Observe and notify facility staff of any pool maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Enforce department rules and policies as outlined in The Woodlands Township Employee Handbook and The Woodlands Township Learn to Swim Manual.
- Communicate effectively with patrons and employees to ensure a safe and professional work environment. Responsible for informing the Aquatics Program Coordinator of any issues that arise outside scope of work.
- Assist with teaching classes and fill in for instructors as needed.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Required to work a flexible schedule to include early mornings, days, evenings, and weekends.
- Required to work events, to include Dive N Movie, Log Rolling, Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Patch, Water Glow, World’s Largest Swim Lessons, Water Safety Camp, and Water Safety Month).
- Required to attend all orientation meetings and trainings.
- Wear prescribed uniform.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
