What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Teacher (Boston, MA) position at The Winsor School?
Founded in 1886, The Winsor School is an independent girls’ school for academically promising and motivated students in grades five through twelve. Located in the heart of Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic Research area, our students benefit from the school's long standing commitment to providing a superior education for girls, inspirational and dedicated faculty, and a diverse and talented community. Winsor strives to consciously create an environment of respect and inclusion and to support ethnic, racial, religious and socio-economic diversity among all the constituencies of the School. Winsor supports this commitment through its more inclusive curriculum, success addressing a range of learning styles, the availability of a wide array of diversity efforts and programs, and by participating in the greater Boston community.
Winsor is currently seeking a 3/4-time dance teacher to teach beginning to intermediate-level dancers in grades 5 through 12. In addition to teaching several dance classes, the dance teacher collaborates with two other teachers to produce the 5th grade play; plans, prepares, and organizes the Winter and Spring Dance Concert assemblies; supports other productions periodically throughout the year; and may be asked to advise a group of students, run a club, and/or assume a proctoring duty or other community responsibility. Compelling candidates will have experience working with middle and high school students and an ability to incorporate different styles and elements of dance and dance-making (body, space, time, etc.) into classes and performances. Strong candidates will have experience facilitating conversations about the historical, cultural and creative aspects of dance and must be able to problem-solve creatively, communicate clearly and effectively, offer kindness and patience, and be willing to adapt.
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work, an understanding of the importance of teacher engagement in community life, and an interest in using a variety of pedagogical approaches in the classroom are essential. The ability to use technology effectively in the teaching and learning process is also important.
