SEASONAL FARM WORKER

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in farming, greenhouse work, horticulture, or similar agricultural role
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon hire)
  • Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License (copy required upon hire)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental, and sexual identities. Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to operate and perform minor maintenance on farming and greenhouse equipment
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working with adolescents or in youth-centered environments

 

REQUIREMENTS

Must successfully complete all required background checks:

  • Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC)
  • NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR)
  • NYS Sex Offender Registry (SOR)
  • NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting
  • NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)
  • Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry for any state the person has resided in within the last five years (if applicable)

 

HOURS

  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM 
  • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program

 

SALARY

$22.00/hour

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to perform physical responsibilities including lifting, bending, and standing for prolonged periods
  • Must tolerate working in outdoor weather conditions and greenhouse environments (humidity, temperature variation, etc.)

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

Assist with the operation and upkeep of the campus farm and greenhouse facilities to support seasonal agricultural production and program needs

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plant, cultivate, weed, and harvest crops in outdoor fields and greenhouses
  2. Assist in preparing garden beds, composting, and managing soil health
  3. Water, fertilize, and monitor plant health for greenhouse and field-grown crops
  4. Operate basic farm equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner
  5. Assist with pest and disease monitoring and apply treatments as instructed
  6. Support in maintaining cleanliness, order, and safety of the greenhouse and farm areas
  7. Maintain records related to planting schedules, harvests, and crop care
  8. Perform related tasks as assigned by the Farm Supervisor
  9. Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, while upholding our mission, vision, and values

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues. Our programs offer an array of treatment modalities specifically designed to meet the needs of our youth.
