Position Summary:
This role involves supporting field operations through hands-on labor, equipment operation, and assisting skilled trades in the installation, repair, and maintenance of infrastructure. Ideal candidates are safety-focused, reliable, and willing to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground and aerial utility systems (fiber, coax, conduit, etc.).
- Operate and maintain basic construction tools and equipment (hand tools, power tools, trenchers, compressors, etc.).
- Perform digging, trenching, backfilling, and site restoration (landscaping, sprinkler repair, concrete, asphalt, sod, etc.).
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Support crews in setting up and tearing down work zones, including traffic control if required.
- Follow instructions from foremen, supervisors, and skilled trades to complete tasks on schedule.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, adhering to company policies and OSHA safety standards.
- Assist in locating, identifying, and protecting existing utilities during excavation.
- Document daily work activities as directed by supervisors.
- Provide general labor support for a wide variety of field construction tasks.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous construction or utility experience a plus (willing to train motivated candidates).
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors, and perform physically demanding labor.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments (heat, cold, dirt, mud, confined spaces, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (CDL is a plus).
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow directions.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with underground utility or telecom construction.
- Familiarity with utility locating and safe digging practices.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
Work Environment:
- Field-based position with daily outdoor work.
- May require extended hours, weekends, or overtime depending on workload.
- Travel to multiple job sites within the service area.
