What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bouncer/Doorman position at The Wildcat Publick House?
Bouncer/ ID Checker – The Wildcat Publick House
Location: Durham, NH
Job Type: Part-time / Full-time
Pay: Competitive hourly wage based on experience
Availability: Nights and weekends required
The Wildcat Publick House is a locally owned gastro-dive bar in downtown Durham focused on great bar food, cold drinks, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers.
We're looking for a dependable, professional door person who can help maintain a safe, organized, and enjoyable environment for our guests and staff.
As a college-town bar, we see a mix of students, locals, and visitors. We need someone who is friendly and approachable but also confident enforcing house policies, checking identification, and handling busy nights.
What You'll Do
- Greet customers as they enter the establishment
- Check identification and verify customers meet legal drinking-age requirements
- Recognize potentially fake, altered, or invalid IDs
- Monitor entry and exit points during operating hours
- Help manage occupancy and customer flow during busy periods
- Enforce house policies professionally and consistently
- Identify potentially intoxicated or disruptive customers and communicate concerns to management
- Handle difficult situations calmly and professionally
- Work closely with bartenders, management, and other staff to maintain a safe environment
- Help maintain an orderly entrance and surrounding area
- Assist with opening, closing, and other duties as needed
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a door person, security staff member, or ID checker preferred, but we're willing to train the right person
- Dependable and punctual
- Strong attention to detail when checking identification
- Confident and comfortable interacting with customers
- Able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
- Good judgment and strong communication skills
- Friendly personality with the ability to be firm when necessary
- Comfortable working in a busy, sometimes loud bar environment
- Able to work late nights and weekends
- Willing to work as part of a small team
- Responsible and capable of enforcing policies without unnecessary confrontation
This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a lively, independent bar rather than a corporate establishment. We're building a neighborhood spot where people can have a good time, and we want employees who help make that possible.
We're not looking for someone who wants to intimidate customers or create confrontations. We want someone who can be welcoming, recognize potential problems early, and handle situations with maturity and common sense.
Experience working in college bars, nightlife establishments, or other high-volume environments is especially helpful.
