The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment and a strong understanding of food safety and preparation techniques with a minimum of 1 year of kitchen experience. Duties would include setting up, organizing, and working a station on the line.
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will play a key leadership role in daily kitchen operations, maintaining the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented cook ready to step into a leadership position in a beautiful, high-volume inn and restaurant setting in the Litchfield Hills
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and service during all shifts.
- Assist the Executive Chef with menu development, recipe standardization, and seasonal specials using fresh, local ingredients.
- Maintain strict standards for food quality, taste, presentation, portion control, and food safety (HACCP/ServSafe practices).
- Supervise, train, motivate, and schedule kitchen staff; lead by example on the line.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and food costs to ensure profitability without compromising quality.
- Step in as the lead when the Executive Chef is absent.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
- Collaborate with front-of-house team for smooth service and guest satisfaction.
- Support special events, private dining, and inn guest experiences.
- Qualifications
- 3–5 years of progressive culinary experience, with at least 1–2 years in a sous chef or strong lead line cook role.
- Experience in fine dining, inn/tavern, or high-volume restaurant environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of various cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment.
- Passion for seasonal, local, and thoughtfully prepared cuisine (New England and British-inspired influences a plus).
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
