What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiberglass/Composite Technician position at The Whiskey Project Group?
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Composite Infusion Technician to perform vacuum-assisted resin infusion processes in a production manufacturing environment.
The Infusion Technician is responsible for preparing composite assemblies, installing vacuum-bagging systems, establishing and maintaining vacuum integrity, mixing and managing resin systems, and controlling the infusion process to produce consistent, high-quality composite components.
This is a hands-on production position where attention to detail, process discipline, and the ability to identify problems before they become defects are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare composite molds and layups for vacuum infusion.
- Verify material placement, orientation, overlap, and sequence before bagging.
- Install peel ply, flow media, distribution media, vacuum film, sealant tape, breather, and other consumables according to established work instructions.
- Properly position vacuum ports, resin inlet lines, vacuum lines, and flow-control components.
- Build vacuum-bagging systems that provide uniform and reliable vacuum throughout the part.
- Perform vacuum leak checks and troubleshoot leaks before beginning infusion.
- Verify vacuum levels meet established process requirements before introducing resin.
- Prepare resin systems according to approved formulations and production requirements.
- Accurately measure resin, catalyst, hardener, and additives when applicable.
- Monitor resin temperature, working time, viscosity, and other process variables as required.
- Control resin flow during infusion to ensure proper wet-out and minimize dry spots, race tracking, voids, and other defects.
- Monitor the infusion from start to completion and respond quickly to process abnormalities.
- Maintain appropriate vacuum throughout the cure cycle.
- Follow established resin, catalyst, temperature, and cure requirements.
- Remove vacuum-bagging materials after the required cure cycle.
- Inspect infused parts for visible defects, dry areas, voids, resin-rich areas, bridging, wrinkles, and other abnormalities.
- Identify and communicate defects or process deviations immediately.
- Maintain accurate production and process documentation.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Properly handle resins, catalysts, solvents, and other chemical materials.
- Follow all applicable SDS, PPE, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Work closely with mold preparation, layup, trimming, and finishing personnel.
- Assist with process improvements and troubleshooting as directed.
- Perform other manufacturing duties as needed.
Quality Expectations
Infusion is a quality-critical manufacturing process. Small mistakes during setup can result in significant defects after the part has been cured.
