POSITION OVERVIEW


Working in partnership with other Nurses, the Division Administration, and the Student Support Department, the Infirmary Nurse provides healthcare services to students, faculty, and staff and helps identify and address students' social, emotional, and physical needs.  In addition to attending to clinic supply levels and performing other administrative tasks, the Infirmary Nurse will also contribute to implementing and maintaining programs that promote health and wellness on Westminster’s campus. Infirmary assignments will be made at the discretion of the Director of Nursing and will be based on the current nursing needs of all divisions.

Position Status:  Salaried, exempt, full-time, 12-month (follows the Academic School Calendar)

Hours of Work: This is a full-time, year-round position. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some weekend and evening work may be required. 
 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


The requirements below outline the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of a successful candidate.

  • A registered nurse with a current Georgia nursing license is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and AED certification are preferred
  • Experience working with children is preferred
  • Ability to understand common inquiries or complaints and to clearly and effectively respond and present information to children, faculty, staff, parents, and health care providers.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of basic computational skills and the ability to learn data entry into software systems such as Magnus Health System. Proficient use of the Google Suite.
  • Ability to communicate using electronic mail.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain strict confidentiality, and interface effectively with a diverse constituency, representing the School with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate with a high level of compassion and problem-solving during tense situations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Provides health care services to students, faculty, and staff by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Addresses any health-related issues, concerns, or injuries
  • Displays warmth and caring, prioritizing students’ needs in the clinic and communicating with parents above other duties.
  • Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and addressing the social, emotional, and physical needs of the students
  • Collects students’ daily and PRN medications. Obtains necessary documentation according to the School’s policy on collection and consent for medications.  Assists and documents the delivery of students’ daily, emergency, and PRN medications
  • Assists students/faculty/staff in taking over-the-counter medications per School policy
  • May be required to become a Certified CPR and First Aid Instructor
  • May be required to complete regular and ongoing first responder training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.

 

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required, primarily for planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
