JOB SUMMARY
Overall responsibility for the management of all processes associated with HR administration and the supervision of the Human Resources Assistant. Monitors federal and state laws and regulations related to employment, ensuring compliance with those that pertain to The Wesley. Develops and administers personnel policies and procedures. Oversees employee benefit plans, retirement plan, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance training, and the HRIS. Plans recognitions events. Advocates the mission and philosophy of The Wesley.
Responsibilities:
- Present a welcoming atmosphere and courteously assist and council employees.
- Develop, maintain, and implement The Wesley human resource policies, procedures, handbooks, and records.
- Monitor The Wesley’s compliance with Federal and State labor, wage, and hour laws.
- Assist in advising the Payroll Specialist, whose supervisor is the Chief Financial Officer.
- Prepare list of payroll changes relating to HR processes.
- Administer employee benefits plans: Health, vision, dental, life insurance, paid time off, 401(k) plan, and required legal benefits such as FMLA, Workers’ Compensation.
- Oversee The Wesley processes for recruiting, hiring, termination, progressive discipline, and grievance according to established procedures.
- Train and assist supervisors with a wide range of HR topics and procedures, particularly consultations and terminations.
- Manage unemployment issues, claims, and appeals.
- Research and develop competitive wage scales and approve all compensation.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team (EMT):
- Exhibit commitment to the team concept in all relationships with residents and staff members,
- Participate in meetings of the EMT,
- Participate in the rotation of the Saturday Manager-on-Duty schedule,
- Attend special events and activities as requested or applicable,
- Be available for on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Report exceptions to The Wesley policies and procedures immediately to the President/CEO.
- Serve on the QAPI committee and the Safety committee.
- Assist the Chief Operating Officer with the All Employee monthly meeting.
- Prepare reports for meetings as requested and take initiative to compile new types of reports.
- Organize the Employee Christmas Party planning committee.
- Plan departmental recognition events according to the monthly schedule.
- Assist with campus-wide events as requested.
- Supervise the Executive Assistant to compile the Employee Newsletter.
- Balance the insurance bills: health, dental, vision, life, and critical illness/accident;
- Ensures the Allied Funding Summary emails are saved weekly in the event they are needed by the auditors.
- Oversee the SMART program in coordination with the Safety Director.
- Conduct Exit Interviews as often as possible.
- Routinely communicate employee issues with the President/CEO.
- Represent The Wesley in a positive manner in the community.
- Complete other duties in a timely manner as assigned by the President/CEO.
- Regular continuing education for personal and professional enhancement is required.
Qualifications
- Must either have a bachelor’s degree in HR or work experience of five years in HR
- Supervisory skill is extremely helpful
- Certification from HRCI or SHRM is preferred
- Trained and proficient with computers, HR software, office equipment, organization, and telephone and email etiquette.
- Proficient in English grammar, speaking, writing and spelling.
- Ability to reason, solve problems, communicate with residents, staff, visitors and trustees, read with comprehension and benefit from continuing education.
- Present a professional, positive image to residents, staff and the public in appearance and personality.
- Ability to multi-task and deal with multiple interruptions.
- Possess the physical strength, mobility, dexterity, agility, and the visual, vocal and auditory abilities to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
