The Well Community Collective – Literacy Coach
Reports To: Clinical Coordinator / Program DirectorEmployment Type: Contract / Part-Time (with opportunity for full-time expansion)Location: Onsite at partner agencies and community sites (DeKalb, Fulton, and Metro Atlanta)FLSA Status: Exempt - Dayshift (must be available during the day)
Position SummaryThe Literacy Coach supports The Well Community Collective’s trauma-informed, whole-child model by building the capacity of educators, caregivers, and community partners to strengthen literacy development among at-risk youth and early learners. Literacy coach supports The Well Community Collective’s two-generation approach by empowering caregivers of at-risk youth, justice-involved adolescents, and young adults aging out of foster care to build stronger, literacy skills.The coach provides classroom modeling, collaborative planning, and one-on-one coaching to integrate literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), and culturally responsive practices into daily instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe classrooms and provide feedback to teachers on literacy instruction and language-rich environments.
- Co-plan and model small-group reading and early literacy interventions.
- Coach teachers and behavioral specialists on integrating literacy and SEL strategies into play and daily routines.
- Lead family literacy workshops to teach shared reading, storytelling, and home literacy activities.
- Collect and analyze literacy progress data to inform instructional supports.
- Collaborate with The Well’s wellness and behavioral teams to align literacy goals with holistic wellness goals.
- Provide professional learning sessions on trauma-informed literacy practices and culturally responsive teaching.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Reading, or related field (required).
- Master’s degree or Reading Specialist/Literacy Coach certification (preferred).
- 3 years of experience in early literacy or elementary education.
- Demonstrated success working with at-risk or trauma-exposed populations.
- Strong coaching, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
