What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Volleyball Coach position at The Waverly School?
The Waverly School, a member of the International League, invites applicants for the Varsity Volleyball Coach position. This member will report to and work with the Athletic Director to develop, run, and grow the Volleyball Program. Practices are typically two to three days a week either on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays from 4-6pm. Both home and away games typically start at 4:00pm.
Knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge of the game and an extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures are paramount.
Knowledge of CIF rules and regulations
Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
Ability to effectively support the growth and development of students
Skills
Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning.
Establish a strong rapport with all stakeholders and the community through positive representation and communication.
Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the culture of the school and athletic program.
The applicant must be able to relate to students and teach them the sport's fundamental skills.
The applicant must possess high organizational skills, evidenced in planning.
Adhere to all state, section, conference & league rules, and regulation policies.
Encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students
Be a mentor, both in volleyball and in life.
Attributes
The applicant should be professionally calm under stress and be motivationally intense.
The applicant should be a progressive thinker who believes in planning and preparation.
Must be able to work well and collaborate with others.
Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities
Assist the athletic director with keeping an updated inventory of all equipment and uniforms
Must be available for practices and games on weekday afternoons and evenings.
Support the clearly defined standards of behavior and academic performance.
Report contest outcomes to the Athletic Director
End Of Season
Collaborate with the Athletic Director to arrange systematic return, cleaning, storing, and inventory of all equipment and uniforms.
Recommend student-athletes for awards and evaluate past seasons
Attend the athletic banquet.
Submit recommendations for next year's schedule and equipment purchases.
Certifications
CIF Coaching requirements as deemed necessary by the athletics administration.
CPR & First Aid Certification is required for coaches at all levels (i.e., varsity, JV, and middle school)
Requirements
Prior volleyball coaching experience with girls between the ages of 10-17 years old
Knowledge in all areas of middle and high school volleyball programs
Good communication skills and organization
Great enthusiasm and spirit for the sport
Valid California driver’s license
Program Availability
August 15th until the end of Volleyball Season approximately late October 2025
Hours: 4pm-6pm per day for practices and games.
No weekend commitments are necessary.
