What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assurance Manager position at The Watermark Group?
Watermark CPA Group is looking for an Assurance Manager who wants more than a traditional public accounting role. We are building a firm around a clear purpose—to inspire others—and we are seeking a leader who is energized by meaningful client relationships, high-quality assurance work, and the opportunity to help shape the future of our practice. This role offers a defined path to ownership within three to five years for the right person.
Our firm’s “Why” is simple and powerful: to inspire others. That purpose drives how we serve clients and our community, how we lead one another, and how we grow. We are grounded in three core values: others first focus, entrepreneurial spirit, and passionate conviction. If you thrive in an environment where character matters, ideas are welcomed, and excellence is pursued with energy and humility, you will feel at home here.
- Lead assurance engagements from planning through completion, ensuring quality, timeliness, and strong client experiences.
- Manage, coach, and develop team members by creating clarity, building confidence, and modeling excellence.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to privately held and entrepreneurial clients, offering insights that go beyond compliance.
- Review financial statements, workpapers, and key deliverables with a sharp eye for accuracy, risk, and opportunity.
- Strengthen client relationships and contribute to practice growth through responsiveness, strategic thinking, and business development.
- Help improve processes, elevate firm capabilities, and contribute to the long-term vision of the assurance practice.
- CPA with 6 years of public accounting experience with a focus on assurance services, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Proven ability to lead engagements, manage multiple priorities, and mentor developing professsionals.
- Strong technical knowledge paired with practical judgement and business curiosity.
- A relationship builder who communicates clearly, follows through, and puts people first.
- Motivated by growth, energized by opportunity, and excited to contribute like an owner.
Our culture is built around three Strategic Anchors:
🌱 Growth & Fulfillment: We invest in helping our people achieve their professional goals and personal dreams through programs like Dream Manager, including dream funding, and personal assessments like Kolbe A Index and Working Genius.
🤝 Deepening Relationships: We believe meaningful relationships are the foundation of great work. We intentionally foster connection, collaboration, and trust among our team, clients, and community.
❤️ Community Impact: We deliberately allocate time, energy, and resources to making a difference through our “Making Our Mark” Community Impact strategy which provides multiple annual community service projects, paid personal volunteer days, grants through The Watermark Group Charitable Fund, and more.
And because values and culture should be more than words, we back ours up with benefits that support a full and meaningful life—including generous PTO and Summer 4-Day Work Weeks, and the push you need to begin the pursuit of things that matter to you through our “dream funding” initiative.
This is a leadership role with real potential. We are intentionally looking for someone who can grow into an ownership position within three to five years. That means this opportunity is not just about managing engagements—it is about helping shape client strategy, influence firm direction, mentor future leaders, and build something enduring. If you want a seat at the table and a voice about where the firm is headed, we would love to meet you.
