What are the responsibilities and job description for the Board Trustee, The Waterfront Project, Inc. position at The Waterfront Project, Inc.?
Do you believe that housing is a human right? Are you looking for a meaningful board opportunity that has the capacity to change people's lives?
The Waterfront Project (WFP) is the only organization in New Jersey that pairs free civil legal representation with HUD-certified housing counseling. Every year we serve more than 3,000 people across all 12 Hudson County municipalities, through eviction defense, foreclosure prevention, housing counseling, homebuyer education, and tenant rights advocacy.
We're recruiting new Trustees to help guide WFP's next chapter. Board members set policy and direction, oversee the organization's finances and risk, support and evaluate the Executive Director, and open doors that advance our fundraising, programs, and public-policy work.
What we ask of Trustees
- Attend all four regular Board meetings each year, plus special meetings as needed
- Give or raise a minimum of $10,000 annually
- Serve on at least one committee: Governance, Development and Marketing, or Finance
- Attend and support WFP fundraising events
- Act as an advocate and ambassador for WFP and help identify connections that advance our goals
- Read board materials in advance and come ready to participate
- Serve as an ambassador and help identify fundraising, programmatic, and policy connections
Terms: Two-year terms with no limit on renewals. Trustees serve without compensation.
If you care about housing stability and want to put your network and judgment to work for it, we'd like to hear from you. Please reply to this post or email expressions of interest along with a current resume to director@thewaterfrontproject.org
